Setting Your Own Pace

I truly do see September as a time of new beginnings, and dare I say it, tentative resolutions. That fresh feeling in the air this month brings, alongside beautiful autumnal light, conjures up hope. Please say it’s not just me?

A natural character trait we all seem to possess is that of comparison. Worrying you’re not as good as someone at something, feeling behind with a work skill, beating yourself up over a top/hairstyle/body/personality you may never own. All of the above and more.

Yet, we all get there in the end with where we’re going, even if that path is not always apparent. Just walking at our own pace. Ditch the doubt, grab life by its bits and head in a forward direction as best as you can. Yes, you’ll have days where things just aren’t happening how they should. But put those to one side, and embrace the next.

At the moment I feel like I’m spinning plates, juggling different types of work plus home life and you know, mainly not burning the toast. How is everyone else doing it, I sometimes think. I said to a colleague that I felt overwhelmed, and she gave me some excellent advice. Suggesting I break these tasks down, she pointed out that if I look at having say, a chunk of time assigned to one job, I can then focus on that during those minutes/hours, rather than worrying about it all the time.

I know life isn’t necessarily as black and white as that, but I really value the viewpoint and will use this stress-busting strategy wisely. Tonight, instead of obsessing at 11pm about tomorrow’s life admin and work, I will set those thoughts to one side and close the lid.* Because I am going to forget what everyone else is doing, and manage my own pace. What’s your September fresh start suggestion?

*Or try to, at least.

  1. If you get some helpful suggestions, let me know! Can really relate to your conundrums (as you know). I agree that September is a far better time for new beginnings; January is often a long, dark & post-Christmas tight month- both budget & my jeans, ha ha! S xx

    • oh I definitely will, S- it’s a much happier month isn’t it, even with the usual juggle struggle! lots of love xxx

  2. I really struggle with this and feeling overwhelmed. Good advice to break things down but definitely easier said than done when you’re in the midst of it. I’ve taken to listening to a podcast before bed, seems to distract my brain much better than reading can. September is for new beginnings and new winter boots!!!xxx
