Bank Holiday Digital Detox

easter 1.jpg

We went away to my lovely in-laws’ place for Easter, and I switched my phone off for (almost) the entire 4 days. Being a mama I feel a constant need to be ‘on’ and just needed to salvage a little piece of quiet.

I do tend to turn my phone off and shove it in a drawer by 8pm each evening, in a bid to wind down from the day. I’ve even banned mobiles in the bedroom. But, I felt so frazzled last week that I needed to take things one step further. It’s amazing how easily we get distracted, and I do feel guilty that occasionally time spent on my phone could be time paying attention the kids.

Don’t get me wrong, I obviously thrive on technology and social media as a blogger, and I need my support network of texter friends. Yet, sometimes life feels so fast-paced and relentless, it’s almost an effort to realise I need to switch off.

Weirdly, when I did go to turn my mobile back on again, I decided against it and kept it off another day still. Not needing to sort anything and be totally unavailable temporarily is definitely a liberating change.

Knowing I could come back to general life refreshed after a physical and mental break offered some much-needed respite. And I did feel ready to tackle life head-on again after the switch-off. As a rule I try and have one phone-free day a week, and I may go for a whole weekend at a time from now on.

What is really spoiling by taking a total break from it all?

P.S The above pic is of a gorgeous Easter present from a close pal who knows me too well. You can see more fab MAMA bracelets and other bits over on With Love, Rosie x’s Instagram.

  1. I feel I need to do this all the time. Social media is somewhat of an obsession that I think we all have. Then when you actually work out that the world still goes round if you don’t read every blog post everyone has written or every picture on Instagram doesn’t need your like its quite refreshing!

    also love this bracelets!!

  2. Wonderful darling, I did this over Christmas for a few days and felt amazing-in control and able to BREATHE again. I sometimes do it when we holiday too and have gone for (shocker) whole weeks before. So glad you got to wind down and switch off properly darling. Now let’s get a girlie meet up organised soon xxx (Gorge bracelet btw) x
